Economics by Anirban is Expanding
I’m adding a paid subscription plan to Economics by Anirban.
After a little more than a year writing this newsletter, I’m shifting the supply curve of Economics by Anirban to the right. What does this mean? Glad you asked!
Starting in January, I’ll be offering a slew of new content (more on that below) that will only be available to paid subscribers. Free subscribers will still receive my post on the jobs report on the first Friday of every month.
Whether you’re a business leader or simply someone who wants to stay up to date on the state of the economy, this newsletter will supply insight that you probably won’t get elsewhere. As always, I’ll focus on supplying content in the most accessible manner.
In appreciation of my earliest supporters, subscribe during the next week and get 33% off your first year (just $100 if you purchase a full year or $10/month for a monthly membership).
If you’re reading this newsletter, you’ve likely seen my presentations, read the content I produce for your favorite industry organizations or publications, or heard my radio spots on WYPR. Great news! I’ll still be speaking and writing in all of those places.
Why Should You Subscribe?
Economic data are complex and often meaningless or worse (confusing) absent broader contextualization. My “Week in Review” posts will provide you with a high-level overview of the most important economic indicators with just the right amount of digestible analysis. Ideally, these posts will take less than five minutes of your time. You’re too busy to keep an eye on esoteric indicators like the Baltic Dry Index or to meaningfully peruse the Fed’s Beige Book. Let me do the heavy lifting for you.
What’s New?
Here’s what you’ll get with a paid subscription to Economics by Anirban:
A “Week in Review” post every (or almost every) Friday that succinctly covers the previous seven days of economic news and data.
Occasional posts that take a deeper dive into specific issues related to policymaking or economics.
A monthly post in which I answer questions submitted by paid subscribers.
Occasional content from Zack, my Millennial COO who explains things like the meaning of “tl;dr” (too long; didn’t read) and answers for his generation’s shortcomings vis-à-vis Gen Xers and Boomers.
The monthly post on the BLS employment report (free subscribers will also get these).
All the jokes I can’t use in my presentations in front of audiences with mixed personalities/politics.
What Economic Indicators Will I Cover?
We’ll hit the basics (labor markets, commodity and consumer prices, GDP, spending, interest rates) and more esoteric indicators (Cass Truckload Linehaul Index, Conference Board LEI, and of course the RLB Crane Index, etc.). The goal is to give you what you need in business and what you need at cocktail parties. Consider this conversational fuel for your dating apps.
When Will the New Content Start?
The first content for paid subscribers will be available during the third week of January (if not sooner).
What Will it Cost?
$150 per year, or $15 per month.
I hope that many of you can expense this. The goal of this newsletter is to keep you informed while using a minimal amount of your time. I hope you or those mercurial supervisors see value in this. If you don’t, or they don’t, you can cancel at any time☹
I also want to accommodate those who can neither expense nor afford it. If that’s the case, shoot me an email and I (or more likely my staff) will get in touch with you to work something out.
And remember, if you subscribe in the next week, you’ll get the first year for only $100 if you purchase an entire year or $10/month for a monthly membership (33% off).
If you’ve found value in my monthly job market posts, I hope you’ll consider subscribing to my paid newsletter.
Very truly yours,
Dr. Anirban Basu
P.S. It’s the holiday season, and there’s no gift more romantic than a subscription to Economics by Anirban.
